Quick Start

1. Install the CLI

install.sh
# macOS/Linux (current)
brew install devghost/taps/trix

# Planned rename (ADR-144): brew install trixdb/taps/trix

# Or download from GitHub releases
curl -fsSL https://install.trixdb.com | sh

2. Connect an Integration

connect.sh
# Connect GitHub (repositories, issues, PRs)
trix integrations connect github

# Connect Notion
trix integrations connect notion

# Connect Google (Gmail, Calendar, Drive)
trix integrations connect google

Your browser will open for OAuth authorization. After granting access, the connection is stored securely.

3. Sync Your Data

sync.sh
# Trigger a sync
trix integrations sync <connection-id>

# Full sync (re-imports everything)
trix integrations sync <connection-id> --full

4. Search Your Imported Memories

search.sh
# Search across all memories including imported content
trix search "Q1 planning notes"

# Or via API
curl -X GET "https://api.trixdb.com/v1/memories?q=Q1+planning" \
  -H "Authorization: Bearer YOUR_API_KEY"

Architecture

The integrations system consists of:

  • OAuth Provider - Handles authentication with third-party services
  • Sync Engine - Manages incremental and full sync jobs
  • Content Transformer - Converts external content to Trix memories
  • Webhook Handler - Receives events from automation platforms

All OAuth tokens are encrypted at rest using AES-256-GCM with account-specific keys.

Import Integrations

Import integrations pull data from external services into Trix:

GitHub
  • Import repositories with README
  • Sync issues with labels and state
  • Pull requests with branch info
  • File content retrieval
Notion
  • Import pages as markdown memories
  • Sync database structures
  • Automatic block-to-text conversion
  • Incremental sync via last_edited_time
Google
  • Gmail emails with body extraction
  • Calendar events with attendees
  • Google Docs exported as text
  • Automatic token refresh

Automation Integrations

Automation integrations enable bidirectional workflows:

N8N
  • Trigger workflows on memory events
  • Create/update/delete memories via API
  • Custom node manifest available
  • Webhook signature verification
Zapier
  • Polling and instant triggers
  • Create, search, update actions
  • Connect to 6,000+ apps
  • Webhook subscription management

Environment Variables

For self-hosted deployments, configure these variables:

.env
# Required for token encryption
INTEGRATION_ENCRYPTION_KEY=<32+ character random string>

# GitHub OAuth (from GitHub Developer Settings)
GITHUB_CLIENT_ID=your_client_id
GITHUB_CLIENT_SECRET=your_client_secret

# Notion OAuth (from Notion Integrations)
NOTION_CLIENT_ID=your_client_id
NOTION_CLIENT_SECRET=your_client_secret

# Google OAuth (from Google Cloud Console)
GOOGLE_CLIENT_ID=your_client_id
GOOGLE_CLIENT_SECRET=your_client_secret

# Optional: N8N webhook verification
N8N_WEBHOOK_SECRET=your_webhook_secret

Never commit these secrets to version control. Use environment variables or a secrets manager in production.
